Cummins Division Expands Turbocharger Remanufacturing Capabilities

CumminsTurbine technologyThe company, a business unit of Cummins, has expanded its operations in North Charleston, South Carolina, to include turbine remanufacturing.

The company stated that expanding its turbocharger remanufacturing operations enables Cummins to flexibly optimise the network between remanufactured and new turbocharger products, while enhancing the cost competitiveness of both remanufactured and new turbochargers.

Remanufactured second-hand turbochargers will meet the same specifications as new turbochargers. Each remanufactured unit undergoes an equivalent validation process to ensure they meet Cummins customers' expectations for reliability and performance.

Remanufacturing enables the company to “use less, use better, use again” whilst offering an environmentally sound alternative to new turbines. According to the company, the facility can recover approximately 701 tonnes of turbine metals by weight, thereby reducing the global impact of mining and refining these metals.
