LiebherrR 9XX H2 Hydrogen excavatorAwarded the 2022 Bauma Climate Protection AwardInnovation Award。
Liebherr is committed to developing alternative drive systems.Solutionsadopt a technology-neutral approach.hydrogen internal combustion engineThis is a technology currently being explored by the group. The R 9XX H2 is Liebherr's firsthydrogen-poweredCaterpillar-trackedexcavatorThe prototype was developed by Liebherr-France SAS in Colmar, France. The machine is powered by the H966 hydrogen internal combustion engine, which is manufactured at Liebherr Machines Bulle SA, the Liebherr Group's engine technology centre in Fribourg, Switzerland.
The company stated that in terms of power, drive and responsiveness, the R 9XX H2 hydrogen excavator holds no advantage over any conventionally powered machine. Nor does it rely on continuousEnergySupply. Emissions vary: on a “tank-to-wheel” basis, meaning during construction site operation, hydrogen excavators emit virtually no carbon dioxide. On a “cradle-to-grave” basis, encompassing production through to end-of-life, carbon dioxide emissions are 70% lower than comparable conventionally powered excavators. The R 9XX H2, with a 50-tonne operating weight, is suited for extreme temperatures, impacts and high-dust conditions on construction sites, offering a robust solution for future earthmoving and quarrying applications.
This engine features six cylinders and employs port fuel injection (PFI) technology, with Liebherr havinghydrogen engineThis technology, along with direct injection (DI), has been incorporated into the design. Liebherr's Components division plans to commence mass production of hydrogen engines by 2025.
