Wicknortham has been using the battery since 2014 and it is currently available in 11 different products. Since 2021, the battery has also been deployed in BOMAG's electric impact rammers.
Now, Mikasa, Swepac and Enarco have decided to use the same batteries in their compaction equipment. To ensure immediate customer and user identification, these interoperable batteries and chargers are branded Battery One.
Wicknortham's interoperable products already feature the Battery One brand logo. Soon, BOMAG, Mikasa, Swepac and Enarco will also add the Battery One logo to their compatible batteries.
Future-proof battery technology is a key driver for sustainable product development and incentives that will resonate strongly with customers, says Wicknortham. Based on its recent positive experience with Battery One, the company intends to work with the aforementioned manufacturers to establishConstruction equipmentOpen standards for batteries.
Electric Battery Standards
In order to discuss the possibility of a battery standard, the company said, suppliers will engage in negotiations to determine the exact nature of the concept and a timeline for implementation, while specifically complying with antitrust requirements. The collaboration was inspired by the idea that customers would benefit from cost savings when investing in battery-powered products, creating a strong incentive for wider adoption of zero-emission equipment at construction sites.
Establishing such a standard will also streamline construction site workflows and logistics by eliminating the need to manage different batteries and charging systems, the company said. The aim is to allowConstructionof more manufacturers are able to use the battery system.
Stefan Pfetsch of Wicknortham said in a statement, “The availability of multi-vendor interchangeable batteries for construction equipment is a key factor in the growing adoption of construction siteelectric vehicleof the key.” “Compatibility offers tremendous benefits to our customers. We've seen the demand for battery-powered devices grow all the time. With Battery One, we are enabling our customers to more easily move to electrification, especially from products previously powered by conventional drive technology to electric vehicles.”
BOMAG's Ralf Junker said in a statement:
“Battery One's compatibility across different brands and products will further increase the penetration of construction site power equipment and battery lifecycle management in thesustainability. Together with our customers, we are helping construction sites around the world become greener.” Mikasa Hironari Kyoya said in a statement, “Powerful and interchangeable batteries address many challenges on construction sites, such as the need for longer battery runtimes, faster charging times, and lower equipment and infrastructure costs. All of this adds up to greater convenience for our customers.”
