Hydrogen production

Nikola is developing a hydrogen supply capacity of up to 300 tonnes per day (TPD). This supply is expected to be supported by the following previously announced projects:

  • Production Centre in Buckeye, Arizona - Phased development up to 150 metric tonnes per day
  • Plug Power——Multi-region power purchase agreement of up to 125 megawatt-hours per day
  • Trehout,IndianaWabash Valley Resources — 50 metric tonnes per day
  • Crossfield, Alberta, TC Energy — 60 metric tonnes per day
  • Clinton County, Pennsylvania, KeyState — 100 metric tonnes per day

PHH, situated in Buckhead, Arizona, is anticipated to be constructed in phases to meet demand for Nikola zero-emission trucks in the Southwest. The initial phase will commence at 30 tonnes, with capacity expanding to a maximum of 150 tonnes per day in future stages. Construction of the first phase is projected to be completed in the latter half of 2024, subject to final investment decisions and customary regulatory approvals.hydrogen refuelling station

To achieve the target of establishing 60 hydrogen refuelling stations by 2026, the first announced stations will be located in California: Colton, Ontario, and a site serving the Port of Long Beach. As Nikola's launch market, these stations are designed to support key customers and advance the state's efforts to decarbonise its transport sector.

HYLA Flexible Mobile Refuelling Unit

HYLA Flexible Mobile Refuelling UnitSolutionsThis forms part of Nikola's early flexible customer service offering, distributing hydrogen to FCEV customers at locations meeting their requirements. The mobile refuelling unit cools and compresses hydrogen to rapidly fill 700-bar FCEV heavy-duty trucks. Combined with a hydrogen tube trailer holding 960 kilogrammes, the mobile refueller enables continuous refuelling of customer trucks.

The mobile refuelling station programme encompasses both proprietary mobile refuelling stations and third-party mobile refuelling stations, offering Nikola customers a range of flexible refuelling options.

The first mobile refuelling unit has completed commissioning and testing and is now operational in the market. Nikola will deploy additional hydrogen mobile refuelling units in the first quarter of 2023.

Michael Lohscheller, President and Chief Executive Officer, stated in a declaration: “Nikola is the only company that has successfully brought revolutionary new products, hydrogen fuel cells, to market."Battery-powered lorryand completehydrogen energySource infrastructureSupply chainCompanies consolidated under one roof.”
