Nikola has created a new global brand, Hyla, to encompass the hydrogen that the company uses to produce, distribute and dispense for its zero-emissiontrucksfuelledrenewable energyProducts.
Hydrogen production
Nikola is developing up to 300 tons of hydrogen per day (TPD). This supply is expected to be supported by the following previously announced projects:
- Buckeye, Arizona Production Center - Phased development of up to 150 metric TPDs
- Plug Power - Multi-Regional Off-Take Agreements up to 125 Metric TPDs
- Terre Haute.Indiana, US stateWabash Valley Resources - 50 Metric TPD
- Crosfield, Alberta, TC Energy - 60 Metric TPD
- Clinton County, PA KeyState - 100 Metric TPD
Located in Buckeye, Arizona, the PHH is expected to be constructed in phases to meet the demand for Nikola's zero-emission trucks in the Southwest, with the first phase starting at 30 tons and going up to 150 tons/day of hydrogen in future phases. Construction of the first phase is expected to be completed in the second half of 2024, once final investment decisions and customary regulatory approvals are finalized.hydrogen station
With the aim of building 60 hydrogen fueling stations by 2026, the first announced stations will be located in California: in Colton, Ontario, and at a site serving the Port of Long Beach. California is Nikola's launch market, and the stations are designed to support key customers and help advance the state's transportation sector decarbonization efforts.
HYLA Flexible Mobile Fuel Dispenser
HYLA Flexible Mobile Fuel Dispenserprescriptionwas an integral part of Nikola's early flexible customer service by distributing hydrogen to FCEV customers at locations that met their needs. The mobile refuelers cool and compress hydrogen to quickly fill 700-bus FCEV heavy-duty trucks. Combined with a 960 kg capacity hydrogen hose trailer, the mobile refueler allows continuous refueling of customer trucks.
The mobile dispenser program includes its own mobile dispensers as well as a number of third-party mobile dispensers, which will provide Nikola customers with a variety of flexible refueling options.
The first mobile refueling dispenser has been commissioned and tested and is now operational in the market.Nikola will commission additional hydrogen mobile refueling dispensers in the first quarter of 2023.
Michael Lohscheller, President and CEO, said in a statement, “Nikola is the only company that has succeeded in bringing a revolutionary new product, hydrogen fuel, to the market.Battery trucksand completehydrogensource infrastructuresupply chainsConsolidating companies under one roof.”
