Upon reaching a final binding agreement and obtaining the requisite regulatory approvals, the two companies intend to establish a new joint manufacturing venture with the objective of investing in and operating a manufacturing facility in Europe to produceMercedes- Mercedes-Benz and Rivian are producing large electric vans. - Mercedes-Benz Vans and Rivian will launch within a few years. The aim is to utilise Mercedes-Benz's existing factory in Central/Eastern Europe and construct a brand-new dedicated electric vehicle production facility.
The two companies envisage producing optimised vehicle designs for efficient manufacturing on a common assembly line. Their objective is to manufacture two large vans: one based on the Mercedes-Benz Vans Electric Architecture (MB Vans Electric Architecture) platform, and another utilising the second-generation Rivian Light Van (RLV) electric van platform. Further options to enhance synergies within the joint venture will also be explored.
This joint venture reflects the shared objectives of Mercedes-Benz Trucks and Rivian: both companies plan to rapidly scale up production of electric trucks to aid the world's transition towards cleaner transport.
