Hawaii's electric vehicle usage fees may face difficulties

HawaiiThe Tax Foundation think tank has indicated that the proposal to implement Road User Charges (RUC) in Hawaii may not proceed smoothly.
According to a report released by the Hawaii Department of Transportation in August, the department recommends a gradual transition to Road User Charging (RUC). The majority of drivers surveyed in the report indicated their support for replacing the fuel tax with RUC as soon as possible. As reported by Center Square, the state has established a goal of net-zero emissions in the transport sector by 2045 and has abolished taxes on fossil fuels.
HIDOT also recommends that drivingelectric vehicleThe vehicle owner shall pay an annual fixed fee of $50 under the Road User Charging (RUC) scheme, equivalent to the per-mile rate paid by owners of conventional petrol-powered vehicles.
