California consumes a lot of renewable diesel

Government agencies report an 18-fold increase in consumption since California adopted a low-carbon fuel standard in 2011. One million barrels were used that year; by 2021, it will reach 28 million.

California is the only state that exclusively offers rebates to customers who purchase renewable diesel, and renewable diesel use in the state has increased as renewable diesel has become more economically competitive with biodiesel, the EIA said.
