California consumes large quantities of renewable diesel.

United StatesEnergyA report by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) indicates that in 2021, nearly all renewable energy in the United StatesdieselAll flowed into California, where consumption in 2021 was eight times the state's production. Imported fuel came not only from other US states but also from Singapore.

Government reports indicate that consumption has increased eighteenfold since California adopted its Low Carbon Fuel Standard in 2011. One million barrels were utilised that year; by 2021, this figure will reach 28 million.

The EIA indicates that California is the only state offering rebates specifically to customers purchasing renewable diesel. As renewable diesel becomes more economically competitive compared to biodiesel, the state's consumption of renewable diesel has increased.
