Verizon Connect enhances electric vehicle telematics capabilities

Verizon states that for customers who have already switched to electric vehicles, Reveal's new update enables them to easily manage both their electric and petrol-powered vehicles by viewing charging andBatteryStatus information to extend uptime, and more.

From next month, Verizon Connect Reveal customers in the United States and Canada will be able to more effectively support various vehicle types—including petrol-powered vehicles and electric vehicles—within a single management platform. These enhancements will benefit all Reveal customers, including government, small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), and large enterprise clients operating battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles equipped with OBD-II standard protocols.

The implementation plan for electric vehicles can be evaluated using data and analytics from the Verizon Connect Reveal fleet management software platform. The data that teams can extract regarding mileage, vehicle wear and tear, vehicle tracking and positioning, utilisation rates, and other aspects can inform fleet decision-making on electric vehicle planning. This includes the number of electric vehicles to be introduced in the first phase, future investment, charging infrastructure planning, electric vehicle maintenance, electric vehicle storage and yard management, and so forth.

Expectations of the EV Fleet Manager for the New Version:

• Electric vehicle icon: Quickly identify which electric vehicles are charging on Reveal's live map.
• Mobile application support: Manage personnel and fleets through the location and status of ICE vehicles, electric vehicles, and assets within the Verizon Connect Spotlight application.
• Charging status: Indicates which electric vehicles are actively charging at any given time.
• Battery charge: Near real-time battery charge percentage, enabling identification of which electric vehicles within the fleet possess the highest/lowest battery charge levels.
• Report: New electric vehicle-specific report, including charging data.
• Electric Vehicle Alert: A configurable alert for electric vehicles encountering “low battery charge”.
