Volvo (Swedish car company)Construction equipmentshowcased its ECR25 electric mini at Utility Expo 2021.Excavator This gives customers the opportunity to test run this zero-emission, low-noise machine.

Ray Gallant, vice president of product management and productivity at Volvo Construction Equipment, said the ECR25 is equipped with thelithium ion batteryand an electric motor that replaces thediesel fuelThe engine powers the hydraulic system. The machine'sbatteriesEnough power can be stored to power the ECR25 for up to eight hours in the most common applications, such as utility work.

“They have the exact same power, specs and feel as diesel, but without the emissions, noise or vibration,” says Gallant. “They're popular with customers because at the end of the day, they feel more comfortable and well-rested because they're not fatigued by their surroundings.”

The operator's compartment is identical to the machine's diesel operator's compartment, with only a few minor differences in accommodating electrical components.

“You have to get the battery cycling, you have to get it to start and restart at the beginning,” he said. “But after that, it's instantaneous power and torque. When you engage the levers, it's like a diesel engine, fully accelerating to high RPMs.”

Gallant says the power and responsiveness is the same as a conventional diesel. Both options also offer the same accessories.

“The hydraulic lines go all the way to the end of the moving arm,” he says. “You can run hammers, you can run compactors, you can run different types of buckets ...... Whatever you need, you can run it like one of these machines.”

The ECR25 model also comes with an on-boardbattery levelThe system allows for nighttime charging and is suitable for use with conventional household electrical systems. With the Quick Charge option, the ECR25 can fully charge the 80% within one hour of charging.
